There are many requests for support for educational establishments; small private coaching centres play a very large part in supporting students where government schools have very overcrowded classes with 60 to 70 students per class, learning can be very difficult and an almost impossible task for the teachers. Where there is no government provision of a primary school, leaving whole villages without access to any education these small schools run by volunteers are vital. They have nothing to start with but good will and the generosity of some people, who, themselves, have very little. The only thing in one of these ‘schools’ a rented room was tarpaulin on the floor for the children to sit on. But they are grateful to have the opportunity to learn.
Over the years Seeds of Growth contributed towards new classrooms at the Islamic school, bought book shelves for the library in Nabarun High School and College and bought educational materials (40 jotters 200 pens, books for 3 students). We also purchased a sewing machine and a 3 month training course for deaf and dumb girl and a sewing machine for another girl who had completed unpaid training but couldn’t afford a machine herself.
As with our other projects all materials were bought locally, in or around Sylhet. We will meet as many requests and possible on each project depending on funds available.
